......as P.S Finance describes civil service as engine of governance

Public servants in the employ of the state government of Osun has been charged to see themselves as agents of change and progress for the overall benefit of the state.

This is just as they were told to see their service to the state as a foundational sacrifice that will determine the direction of the state in the nearest future which the coming generations will build upon.

The Supervisor in charge of the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Dr Olalekan Yinusa gave the charge while speaking during a meeting of the steering committee on State Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability Programme held at the state secretariat.

Dr Yinusa said the time has passed when public servants in some agencies see their jobs as seasonal, noting that all agencies henceforth should see any job given to them as urgent.

He said the current reform going on is such that all agencies now have jobs to do at every point in time all year round, saying all hands must be on deck for the growth and development of the state.

The supervisor who called on public servants to be on the same page with government, stressed that the state has no choice than to ensure the full implementation of the budget for the benefits to be felt by the masses of Osun.

Speaking on the job before the committee, the University Don described it as a serious business which should not be handled with kids glove as it is an assignment which will have a positive impact on the state if well handled.

He said the administration of Mr Gboyega Oyetola is determined to continue to make life better for the people of the state, hence the importance attached to the assignment of the steering committee.

According to him, "we should be committed and straight with what we are doing, we should take any assignment we are given seriously as if the life of the state depends on it. In actual fact, the future of the state depends on what we do today.

"we should handle anything we do today well so that future generations of this great state will feel our impact and know that we did something, we should help them to have a solid base where they too can continue to build on.

"I urge us to avoid a situation whereby what we do today will delay the progress of our state, we should see our state as a project which must not fail.

"our state is on the path to greatness, let's continue in that stride. We already have a governor who is thinking on the path of growth and development, let's rally him to succeed.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Adebimpe Ogunlumade called on the steering committee on the programme which is geared towards public financial management to work assiduously for the progress of the state.

She described public servants as the engine room of government which can help speed up the rate of growth and development of the society, while calling on all members of the committee to ensure the state reap the benefits of the reason why the committee was set up.
